Medella Health Chooses DELTA's RFID Chip for Wearable Device

June 27, 2014

DELTA Microelectronics has reported that its THOR RFID chip has been selected by Medella Health for its prototype B version.

According to a release, aimed at diabetes patients, the Medella Health wearable solution continuously monitors blood glucose levels, enabling non-invasive diabetes monitoring and management. DELTA's RFID chip integrates with the Medella sensor, logging data and wirelessly powering the sensor.

"The THOR chip provides first-rate RFID capabilities that matched our rigorous medical device requirements," said Huayi Gao, Co- Founder and CTO at Medella Health. "The chip excels in providing wireless power to our device sensor."

The DELTA THOR is a NFC data logger IC that can store results arriving from on-chip temperature sensors, from external analog signals or from SPI master interfaces. The chip can supply 2.7-5.5V to an auxiliary slave, and is suitable for applications such as temperature logging or SPI-controlled sensors such as pressure, tilt, voltage and light.

DELTA Microelectronics is a European company focusing on ASIC services for the semiconductor industry.

Based in Waterloo, Canada, Medella Health develops the next generation of wearable technology to help patients better manage their diabetes.
