Hatch Statement on Chairman's Mark of the Preserving America's Transit and Highways Act

June 24, 2014

WASHINGTON, June 24 -- The ranking Republican member of the Senate Finance Committee issued the following news release:

U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, today issued the following statement regarding the Chairman's Mark of the Preserving America's Transit and Highways Act (http://www.finance.senate.gov/hearings/hearing/?id=0c30732e-5056-a032-5227-f9928e933c39):

"In order to find a real solution to resolve financing for the Highway Trust Fund, the Committee must act in a bipartisan manner and forge compromise by including a sizeable amount of reductions in wasteful and low-priority spending. Unfortunately, even after weeks of negotiating, today's Chairman's Mark does not accomplish this goal. Moving forward, I will work in good faith with the Chairman and members of the Committee to create a balanced bill that can pass both chambers and be signed by the President."
