A 62-year-old woman who received a call from a man who threatened to have her arrested unless she paid off a loan confirmed with police and her bank that the call was a scam.

Capt. Mike Sweeney of the Salina Police Department said Thursday that the woman did not pay off the $1,000 loan the man claimed had been direct-deposited in her bank account in 2012.

Instead, she confirmed with her bank that she had never received such a loan and confirmed with police that they would not arrest her.

Sweeney said the woman received the call at about 8 a.m. Wednesday.
