June 25--CORSICANA -- This summer, the Pearce Museum at Navarro College will host Corps of Discovery: On the Trail With Lewis & Clark -- a special exhibit illustrates the flora and fauna that explorers Lewis and Clark documented on their famous journey across America.

Artist Maura Allen creates, through her contemporary style, imagery of some of the unique plant and animal life that Lewis and Clark wrote about in their journals and records.

Allen's work uses silhouetted imagery, texture and color, to capture the rugged spirit of the American West, as seen through the eyes of those who discovered it. Her work provides a fresh perspective on all that makes the West iconic today.

"Corps of Discovery" will be on display from July 7 through August 30, 2014 in the Pearce Museum'sArt Gallery.

The final volume of the Pearce Museum's sesquicentennial publication is now available for purchase while visiting the gallery.

The last of a four volume set, The War: Day by Day Volume IV 1864/65 chronicles the final year of the Civil War through the eyes of those who witnessed it. Every entry comes directly from the Pearce Museum's permanent collection, giving readers an in-depth look at the holdings of the Museum.

Over 15,000 original documents make up the collection, from unknown soldiers to some of the nation's most recognized military figures. These documents help tell the very personal story of the Civil War from first-hand accounts.

The Pearce Museum is proud to offer this four volume series as a contribution to the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of one of the turning points in the nation's history.

The soft cover has 355 pages, and features an index of soldiers and civilians who appear in this volume, as well as an appendix with available background information. Each of the 13 chapters opens with the scanned image of an original letter featured within that chapter.

The first three volumes in the series are available as well. Orders by telephone are available by calling 903-875-7596, or visit to make online purchases.
