Looking back at the life of E ChambrÉ Hardman: Talk at Kirkby Gallery

June 25, 2014

The life of renowned photographer Edward ChambrÉ Hardman will be explored in a talk by his friend Dr Peter Hagerty at Kirkby Gallery, Norwich Way, Kirkby, on Thursday, July 10. The gallery is currently hosting an exhibition of Hardman’s work entitled Looking Back at Liverpool, and the talk is a chance for anyone interested in his work to find out more about what inspired him.

Hardman spend more than 60 years photographing the changing face of the Liverpool landscape and people. The result is a stunning visual record of the everyday lives of Liverpool people. The backdrop to the pictures may have changed, but its legacy is still very much evident in the identity and culture of Liverpool – and the wider region – today.

Dr Hagerty – a fellow photographer – was a friend of Hardman’s and initiated the establishment of a charitable trust on behalf of Hardman so that his work could be kept on display in Liverpool at the Hardman House and Studio, which is one of three National Trust properties on Merseyside.

The work on display at the Kirkby Gallery now has been kindly loaned by the National Trust for the duration of the Looking Back at Liverpool exhibition, which runs until July 26.

Entry to Dr Hagerty’s talk – which is from 2-4pm on July 10, is free- but places are limited so anyone interested is asked to book their place by calling 0151 443 5617, or emailing galleries@knowsley.gov.uk .
