Tokyo stocks drop on selling to lock in recent gains

Tokyo stocks ended lower Wednesday on selling to lock in recent gains after overnight falls in U.S. shares.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 109.63 points, or 0.71 percent, from Tuesday to 15,266.61. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 7.67 points, or 0.60 percent, lower at 1,260.83.

Major decliners included insurance, textile and machinery shares.
