By Kari C. Barlow, Northwest Florida Daily News, Fort Walton Beach

June 24--OKALOOSA ISLAND -- After multiple delays during the past two years, major construction is underway at Wild Willy's Adventure Zone on U.S. Highway 98.

The dinosaur-themed amusement park -- which features indoor and outdoor amenities -- will sit on 2.8 acres of the 35-acre Veterans Park, which is owned by Okaloosa County.

"There has been a lot of positive feedback from the community and neighboring businesses," said Blake Rogers, director of business development for Wild Willy's. "Especially since going vertical, folks are starting to see the scope and value we are bringing to the area."

Read on for a Q & A with Rogers about what Wild Willy's has in store for the area:

Q: What do you think is going to be the big appeal of this place?

A: We have created a one-stop shop for outdoor entertainment as well as one of the largest air conditioned, indoor entertainment facilities around. With so many activities in one location, folks can enjoy a full day of fun. Indoor Wild Willy's will feature a state of the art 4D movie theater, an arcade with a redemption store, laser maze, a one-of-a-kind Lost World Adventure with Orlando-quality animatronic targets that can be shot around every corner to earn redemption points.

Also, Wild Willy's will feature Salvati's Pizza Factory with premium hand-tossed, brick oven-cooked pizza as well as self serve style frozen dessert from Yogo Mogos Cool Creamy Creations.

Outdoor Wild Willy's will feature two fully interactive miniature golf courses with motion activated animatronics, over 50-foot tall ropes course, bungee trampolines, inflatable zone, fossil find mining, remote control boats and more. ... Going with a prehistoric theme and consulting with a top paleontologist from the University of Kansas, we were able to ensure all of our animatronic dinosaurs and factual information throughout the park are as accurate as possible. It will truly be an entertainment meets educational experience.

Q: Do you have a favorite feature/amenity that you are especially excited about?

A: We feel our best feature is that we do not only offer indoor activities or only outdoor activities, we offer a good combination of both. Visitors can enjoy an entertaining day at Wild Willy's rain or shine, hot or cold.

Q: What's the new target opening date?

A: Wild Willy's is scheduled to open sometime in October or November 2014.

Q: What company is building the park?

A: Joe Bennett with Northwest Construction is building the park. ... We are very pleased with their work.
