June 24--TWIN FALLS -- Scammers posing as Cable One employees are calling the company's customers and trying to extract credit or debit card numbers, a Cable One official said Monday.
The scam, in which the caller claims to be trying to collect a payment, was noticed Monday, said Cable One local General Manager Russ Young. Anyone receiving such a call should refuse to give out any personal information.
Twin Falls police are investigating, said city spokesman Josh Palmer. The calls appear to be a variation of a common scam in which identity thieves pose as a large business in a given area, Palmer said.
Cable One doesn't cold call customers, even to collect a payment, Palmer said. Customers get their bills in the mail.
