HAL wins the PSU award in innovation

"Bangalore : Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has received the Best Public Sector Unit (PSU) Excellence Award under the innovation category. The awards were given by The Bureaucracy Today in various categories.

Research and Development (R&D) is one of HAL's focus areas. In last two years alone, HAL has filed over 280 patents. Being a strategic defence organisation, the company intends to file more patents to protect its intellectual property developed with large investments. HAL Board has also decided to create an R&D corpus by earmarking one tenth of the annual profits of the company to take up advanced and applied research in aerospace domain.

Besides encouraging cutting-edge research work in the area of aerospace engineering, both within HAL and at various other levels, the company has established chairs at four Indian Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), namely, Mumbai, Roorkee, Kanpur and Kharagpur. It has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with IIT (Chennai), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) laboratories and private industries to initiate new programmes, identify research areas and provide technical consultancy to the Company.

The Government of India has set up the Design & Development Management Board (DDMB) under the chairmanship of RK Tyagi. The Board has a representation from DRDO labs and Department of Defence Production. The DDMB aims to suggest ways and means to strengthen design and development in aerospace and promote self-reliance in critical areas of India's defence preparedness.

Looking ahead

Recently,  HAL  constituted a Committee of Institutions Network (COIN) under the chairmanship of Director (D&D), T. Suvarna Raju. The Committee consisted of all the R&D Centre heads, and aimed to bring in synergy among the all the centres of HAL to boost the company's indigenisation drive.""
