June 23--The Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement team from Stagg High School has won the Engineering Design Challenge national championship.

The team of Dellanira Alcauter, 17, Anthony Nichols, 18, Brooklyn Omstead, 17, and Gabriel Zuniga, 17, had built a prosthetic arm for the competition.

Two years ago, the team from Stagg, on which Omstead also competed, won the national title in a wind power device competition.

This year, the team took second place in the speech and display board, fourth in the technical paper and first place in the ball toss, dexterity challenge, objection relocation and design efficiency.

Combined, those gave them first place overall and the national championship.
