June 23--Dunbar police are asking for help from the public in identifying a suspect in a recent credit card theft.

Dunbar Detective J.A. Payne said a vehicle was broken into at Shawnee Park in Dunbar on May 25 and the victim's purse and credit cards were stolen. The purse contained several credit cards, some airplane tickets and a debit card.

The suspect then attempted to use the victim's debit card to withdraw money from an ATM at a Charleston bank. Payne said the suspect was unsuccessful in retrieving money from the ATM. The purse and its contents were later recovered alongside a roadway in Charleston.

Dunbar Police just received surveillance footage of the suspect and provided it to media outlets Monday.

Payne said the person responsible will face felony charges of access device fraud. If convicted, the suspect could face 10 years in prison or a $10,000 fine, or both.

Anyone with information about the suspect's identity should contact the Dunbar Police Department by calling 304-766-0204 during business hours, or through the department's anonymous tip line at 304-766-0201.
