June 22--Gifts come in different packages. Thomas Tkach and the workers at Popejoy Hall got a great gift when "The Book of Mormon" came calling around Easter this year.

"We were nearly done with our brochure for the new season," Tkach says. "We got the call that the production wanted to come to our market and we pushed the printing deadline."

The 49th season for Popejoy Hall is led by the addition of the Tony Award-winning musical -- the production won nine to be exact -- and is just the tip of the iceberg for the diverse season, which opens in October and goes through May 2015.

"The Book of Mormon" will play for a limited one-week engagement on Sept. 15-20, 2015.

Tkach, director of Popejoy Hall, says the goal each year is to bring a diverse group of productions for the entire state.

"We have productions that are coming that are appealing to a lot of different groups," he says. "We do a lot of surveying to ensure that what we bring to Popejoy is what New Mexicans want to see."

In addition to "The Book of Mormon," the La Vida Llena Broadway in New Mexico season will feature "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical," "Chicago," "Camelot" and "Million Dollar Quartet."

La Vida Llena Broadway in New Mexico Extras include "Blue Man Group," and "Mamma Mia !"

"I think these two shows have become part of people's lives," he says. "It's great we're able to present them."

The Ovation Series features 22 national and international touring shows. Among the productions coming are "Pilobolus," a highly inventive dance company; "Wuthering Heights," performed live by Aquila Theatre Company; "H.M.S. Pinafore," performed by the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players; "The World of Jessica Fellowes," a talk by Downton Abbey historian Jessica Fellowes; and "Stormy Weather," the story of Lena Horne featuring Mary Wilson.

The Popejoy Presents season opens Oct. 15 with "Over the Rainbow," a cabaret-style tribute to Judy Garland starring Hilary Kole.

Tkach says there will be 64 performances of 29 shows set for the upcoming season.

Current season ticket holders can renew their subscriptions beginning today. New season ticket orders will begin on Aug. 1. Visit popejoypresents.com or broadwayinnewmexico.com for more information on how to purchase season tickets and single tickets.
