June 21--ANDERSON -- Anderson Symphony Orchestra is hoping to get people moving at one of its annual events.

Members of the symphony will perform at "A Little Night Music" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The outdoor concert, which has a "Let's Dance" theme for the first time, will consist of a variety of dance songs at the home of Jay and Nancy Ricker of Ricker's Oil in Pendleton.

ASO executive director Dana Stone said anyone is welcome to attend the concert at the Rickers' home, 6320 Foster Branch Drive, Pendleton. Patrons can bring their own lawn chairs, blankets and beverages.

"It's our only summer concert of the year," Stone said. "It's an opportunity to hear ASO out of season and out of the Paramount (Theatre)."

Although the whole orchestra isn't playing at "A Little Night Music," it's ASO's only concert until the start of the 2014-15 season in September.

The season will kick off Sept. 6 with a concert featuring local violinist Emma Campbell, followed by the Halloween Concert on Nov. 1, A Symphony Christmas Dec. 13, Mozart Requiem Lux Aeterna at York Hall Feb. 7 and 8 and Broadway Review April 11.

In its fifth year, "A Little Night Music" is the only fundraising concert ASO has, Stone said. The Rickers are longtime supporters of the orchestra, and Nancy Ricker was on the board of directors for nine years.

Stone said the performance is an important way for people to support the orchestra financially and in spirit, and to get a great concert.

That's why ASO decided to add the "Let's Dance" theme, Stone said. Audiences throughout the years have commented they'd love to hear more up tempo music at the event.

The waltz, polka, cha cha -- nothing is off limits, Stone said. Concertgoers can also expect to hear solos, duets, trios and other combinations during the performances.

"We settled on 'Let's Dance' because it has so many opportunities for different types of music," she said. "It could be Latin and fun, the kind of thing that makes you want to move in your chair."

The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at 6320 Foster Branch Drive, Pendleton.

Admission for children ages 6 to 14 are $10, and for adults it's $25. Tickets can be purchased by calling 644-2111 or online at andersonsymphony.org. Attendees can also pay at the entrance that evening.
