BRIEF: Summer Solstice Concert ready to go

June 21, 2014

The Eagle, Bryan, Texas

June 21--Saturday is the summer solstice, the official start of summer -- although we in Texas rarely wait to begin increasing the heat.

This weekend also marks the return of a cherished tradition, the annual Summer Solstice Concert by the Saint Cecilia Consort, an ensemble of local musicians devoted to keeping alive the vocal and instrumental music of the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods. Consort members use the language and the instruments of that period to recreate the sound.

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 906 George Bush Drive in College Station. There is no charge for the concert, but a freewill offering will be taken.

This year's Summer Solstice Concert will feature vocal and instrumental music from Italy and Spain.
