June 19--PALESTINE -- Two professional guest instructors -- with expertise in ballet and hip hop -- will lead two special classes this summer at Steps of Faith Dance Center.

"We will have a ballet intensive in June and a hip hop intensive in July. Both of our guest instructors are highly sought after in their fields and we are just thrilled to have them visit us and work with dancers in our area!" Steps of Faith Owner Jennifer Ballew told the Herald-Press.

From June 24 to June 26, Kathy VanBerg will be the guest instructor for a ballet intensive held at Steps of Faith Dance Center for children entering second grade and up.

VanBerg began her dance career in Miami, Florida, where by the age of 10 she was listed as semi-professional with the Jill Mallory School of Dance. She continued on in her professional career with the Cuban National Ballet in Miami, Florida. She has taught and choreographed for the Miami Dade College, was co-founder of the dance company for the Miami Philharmonics and owner and director of Dance Inc. in Virginia and more recently the director of the dance department of Harmony School of Creative Arts in Marble Falls, Texas. She also is a member of the Dance Masters of America.

Many of VanBerg's students have gone on to audition and win coveted spots with the Bolshoi Ballet in Russia, the Joffery Ballet in Chicago and the American Ballet Theatre in New York City.

"It is such a rare treat to get instructors of this caliber in a small town to work with kids in a one-on-one classroom environment," Ballew said. "Usually you would need to attend a large dance convention where you would receive at the most an hour of instruction in a room full of 500 or more dancers to take from someone with these type of credentials."

From July 17 to July 19, Steps of Faith Dance Center will host a hip hop intensive also for kids entering second grade and up with guest instructor Ryan Warren. Warren has been dancing since the age of 7 and has trained all over the nation.

He began his career in high school as a featured dancer in the Miss Tennessee pageants and with R&B act, "Destiny's Child." Since then he has choreographed for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Kansas City Chief Cheerleaders, traveled the country with the Adrenaline Dance Convention, was featured on the international television show "Barney the Dinosaur," performed along side the rap duo "Yin Yang Twins," back up danced for country sensation Carrie Underwood, and was featured in Christian recording artist Kari Jobe's music video, "You are For Me."

Warren has taught for the Dupree Dance Expo Convention and currently teaches hip-hop for the convention, Dance Revolution. His individualistic choreography style has earned him national recognition and is in demand at studios across the country. Warren is a graduate from Dallas Baptist University with a bachelor's in Psychology and a minor in Biblical Studies. Warren currently resides in Dallas, with his wife, Amy, and daughter, Brooklyn.

Dancers wishing to attend these workshops are encouraged to register online at or by calling 903-723-0827.
