June 20--TUPELO -- There's not a shy kid in the 50 campers at Pied Piper Players Theatre Camp.

A group of campers sang a song called "Connect the Dots," complete with choreography, and when dance instructor Austyn Davis asked them if they wanted to perform again, they all enthusiastically yelled, "Yes!"

Elsewhere, acting teacher Debby Gibbs coached the students on stage left, right, up and down, and praised her group of older students for learning three scenes, two dances and two songs in three days.

"It's been fun," Gibbs said. "I'll ask them if they had a good time and they all say, 'Yeah.'"

The campers have been taking lessons in acting, singing, dancing and crafts this week at the Tupelo High School Performing Arts Center.

Today, the students will show off what they've learned in a free production of "Arf: A Canine Musical of Kindness, Courage and Calamity."

Sixth-graders Drew Lesley and Trevor Hart have attended the camp and starred in Pied Piper productions for years.

"I like dancing the most," Lesley, 12, said.

"I like the acting class," Hart, 12, said. "And the snacks."

Since both are stage veterans, they aren't nervous about the performance. Hart said he hopes to help out the younger students if they get nervous.

This will be both thespians' last year at the camp, as they'll be seventh-graders this year and the camp is only for students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Both Lesley and Hart hope to come back next year and help out.

The campers will bring donations for the Tupelo-Lee Humane Society to the show. There will be a raffle for a gift certificate to Critter Sitters, and the money raised by the raffle sales will go toward the humane society, Gibbs said.
