June 20--Expect an event of beer, film and fun at The Yards Craft Beer Premier. The event's focus is to celebrate two industries that have had a large economic impact on Albuquerque: the craft brewing industry and the film industry, according to New Mexico Brewers Guild director Chris Goblet. He added that the newly renovated Albuquerque Rail Yards serve as the ideal location for the event since it has served as a filming site for several movies including "The Avengers," "Transformers," "Beerfest" and the widely-popular television series "Breaking Bad."
The event also will have the Batmobile on hand and some other fun.
"It's a duel concept with music and film and a red carpet where you can get your photo taken," Goblet said. "There will be special effects that people can check out with dry ice and laser light shows."
Twenty breweries will be part of the event including Chama River Brewing Company, Kaktus, Kellys, La Cumbre, Marble, Nexus, Santa Fe, Second Street, Stumbling Steer, Tractor and more. All of the participants, with the exception of BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse, are rooted in New Mexico. BJ's, which brews in California, might be bringing specialty beers from around the country, Goblet said.
Two distilleries, Santa Fe Spirits and Left Turn Distilling, as well two cider producers, Santa Fe Hard Cider and Santa Fe Cider Works, also are participating in the event. Food trucks and live music also will be part of the festivities.
The emphasis won't be on beer tasting or sampling. Pints of beer will be available for purchase and each guest is limited to four pints. The admission price gets attendees a commemorative pint glass and their first beer is free. "We're trying to be responsible and make sure people have a good time," Goblet said. "This has less of a sampling focus, but brewers will give people samples if they ask for them. Ticket prices for beer festivals are going up so we thought let's lower the prices and introduce people to great beer and introduce them to an awesome new venue."
