June 20--EDEN -- Rockingham County'sBank of America customers have taken another hit due to a trend in mobile and online banking.
Last week, officials with Bank of America announced plans to sell its Eden branch to Asheville'sHomeTrust Bank -- the second time Bank of America has closed a location in the county. It closed its Reidsville branch last year.
Company officials said the decision in both instances was based on industry trends. With the advent of online banking and mobile apps, many customers prefer to handle their affairs without going to their local branch.
Bank of America has started to take note.
"We look at customers' banking habits ... and we adapt to the needs," spokesman Matthew Daily said.
Bank of America'sEden customers can continue banking online and through mobile apps.
But if they want to discuss mortgages, home loans and the like at the branch, they'll have until Nov. 14 -- that's when the sale to HomeTrust is set to be completed, Daily said.
