June 19--The Young Swedish Singers, a 34-member gospel singing group from Sweden, will appear in concert at 7 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Britton.

This youth choir, founded by director Birgitta Rosland in 1991, comes from a Lutheran church in the far south of Sweden. The choir's home area is Hasslehom, Skane.

Choir members range in age from teenagers to young adults in their early 20s. This is the group's fifth U.S. tour in 12 years. The group's tour includes stops in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa as well as South Dakota. The tour began June 18 and runs through July 2.

The Young Swedish Singers' concert, sung mostly in English, will include gospel, hymns and Swedish folk music. The choir is directed by Birgitta Rosland. The choir's pastor, Rev. Bo Johansson, will travel with the choir, providing spiritual guidance to the tour.

The choir will be hosted by approximately 300 families during their two and a half week tour. The singers will visit Mount Rushmore and downtown Chicago on July 4 before boarding their flight back to Sweden.

Choir members have raised funds to cover not only their airfare to the U.S., but their bus transportation for the entire tour. All offering and CD income received during the tour will benefit Shepherd's Canyon Retreat, a nonprofit ministry providing counseling retreats for clergy and their spouses.
