Comedian Brian Regan performs in Tampa

June 19, 2014

June 19--There aren't a whole lot of really great stand-up comics that you'd want to go see with your kids, or with your parents. That's one of the things that makes Brian Regan special.

Instead of trying to be edgy or trying to appeal to kids or some other specific demographic, Regan performs comedy that's full of universal observations about the everyday dilemmas in almost everyone's life.

Regan's comedy could almost be described as "wholesome." But that's not why he has become one of the nation's most respected comics over the past 20 years or so. That happened because he's very, very funny.

Regan's arena shows have drawn large, enthusiastic audiences. He'll return to Tampa on Friday for a performance at Morsani Hall, the largest theater in the Straz Center for the Performing Arts.

If you can get up to Tampa a little early, you can take in the free "Live & Local" show in the Jaeb Courtyard at the Straz Center.

There's an outdoor bar and live music from Mike Tozier, a long-time Tampa favorite who mixes country folk and Americana. That starts at 5:45 p.m. and goes until a few minutes before Regan takes the stage.

Details: 8 p.m.June 20, Morsani Hall at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, 1010 N. MacInnes Place, Tampa. Tickets: $45 plus service charge and up. Information: 813-229-7827, strazcenter.org.
