June 19, 2014

China Unicom has announced that it is putting up its first integrated telecommunications facility in Hong Kong with an investment of nearly HKD 3 billion.

The project is likely to bring some 200 job opportunities for IT and telecommunication professionals.

The Global Center includes six strategic functions, namely: Global Network Operations Center with Submarine Cable Landing Station, Global Network Solutions & Support Center, Cloud Computing Service Platform, Internet Data Center (IDC), Hong Kong Service Platform, and Product Innovation & Development Center.

The purpose-built Global Center will provide ICT services to worldwide carriers, enterprise clients and organizations in the private and public sectors.

In May 2013, the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) officially confirmed and approved the 1.5 hectares land acquisition for the building of the China Unicom (Hong Kong) Global Center at Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate.

The project is expected to be completed by the first half of 2016.
