June 19, 2014

By Andy Stiny, Albuquerque Journal, N.M.

June 19--In another crime involving art in Santa Fe, a sculpture valued at almost $3,000 has been stolen from a downtown hotel.

Sometime between Thursday and Saturday of last week someone stole a small sculpture from inside the Eldorado Hotel, police said. The theft was reported on Tuesday by a business that supplies art for hotels.

On Monday police reported the vandalism of a piece of outdoor art at the Peyton Wright Gallery in Santa Fe. That work, which makes a sound as the wind blows through it, is the work of the late artist Harry Bertoia and is valued at almost $1 million. That crime follows the recent vandalism of the burro sculpture on Burro Alley.
