Augusta banker installed as state banking chairman

June 19--Remer Brinson III, president and CEO of Augusta-based First Bank of Georgia, was installed as the 125th chairman of the Georgia Bankers Association.

"Remer brings a wealth of strong leadership qualities to his new role as GBA Chairman," said Joe Brannen, the association's president. "Our banks and our industry will be well-served by his experience and insightfulness about the critical issues facing our members, their customers and Georgia's communities."

Brinson previously served on the GBA board of directors and chaired the association's Community Bankers Committee and Public Affairs Committee.

Brinson has been in banking since 1982, when he started working for Georgia Railroad Bank & Trust Co. In 1994, he became chief executive of Citizens Bank and Trust, until its acquisition by Allied Bank of Georgia. He was a senior vice president at Allied Bank and later Regions Bank.

Brinson joined First Bank of Georgia as president in 1999. Brinson also serves as president and CEO of the bank's holding company, Georgia-Carolina Bancshares.

Brinson currently serves on the board of directors of The Development Authority of Richmond County, CSRA Development Companies and the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1982 and the Georgia Banking School in 1989.
