The camp will run from
This is the fourth summer for the camp. The past two years, the production has been based on a Disney musical -- Alladin and Cinderella -- but this year's play will be more of a classic -- The Music Man.
"The premise we went with is that we were going to try and reach out to the older kids." said director
"We are also trying to think of the education aspect of the camp and The Music Man is a standard classic in schools. When we saw it was available for our age group, we really wanted to do it. Some of our students that are really thinking about pursuing a career in theater and this will look good on a resume for them as well."
Vaught said that after two years of doing Disney productions, the council is hoping more boys will come out and take part in The Music Man.
"We are trying to reach a large base of children this year," Vaught said.
Tryouts were held last week for the lead roles in the play, but anyone that wants to just come out on Monday can have a supporting role in the production.
Parents are welcome to volunteer and several have already done so.
"I'm very pleased that we're getting some parents step up to say that they want to help," Vaught said. "The more adults we have helping us, the better the production will be."
At the end of the camp, the cast and crew will put on The Music Man twice on
One of the things unique to The Music Man will be that some students will be organized into a marching band.
"Some of our students will be performing with a musical instrument," Vaught said. "Some will have experience with them and some will not -- it will be interesting."
