Rs 2bn earmarked for Sports, Tourism, Youth Affairs & Museum in KPK budget 2014-15

Rs. 2 billion has been earmarked for Sports, Tourism, Youth Affairs & Museum in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa budget 2014-15, said Provincial Minister for Finance, Siraj Ul Haq in his budget speech here on Saturday.

The Senior Finance Minister said that for the development of sports, tourism besides ensuring playing grounds throughout the province the government allocated Rs 1325.000 Million for total of 44 projects out of which 31 are ongoing with allocation of Rs.1045.999 Million and 13 are new with allocation of Rs.279.001 Million.

The following major targets which will be achieved in this sector included construction of Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex Charsadda, construction of sports Stadium at District Swabi, establishment of international standard multipurpose Gymnasium at Abbottabad, establishment of Sports Academy for the Talented Youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Holding of traditional and Tourism festivals, Broghal, Shandoor, Kalash, Food Festivals and Khan-Pur Festival are top priority in order to provide recreation facilities to the general public.

Construction of Water sports Tourism facilities at Khan-Pur, Kund Pedestrian, Wooden Bridge and establishment of Picnic Spots at suitable Places in Malam Jabba are some of the projects to be completed within the time period.

He said promotion of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a preferred tourist destination, nationally in the short-to medium term and globally in the long term policy including develop a Tourism Policy for KPK Province, develop a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework for Increasing private sector investment in KPK tourism sector would be achieved.

He said increase tourist traffic in the province by at least 10% every year over the next five years and ensure maximum investment (domestic and foreign) in the tourism sector over the next five years.

He said it is the vision of the government to develop a competitive advantage in sports through state of the art facilities and infrastructure, accessible to all citizens of the province under a viable policy like promotion of sports through various interventions at grassroots level, restoration, up-gradation and creation of state of the art infrastructure, research and development, development of state of the art infrastructure with cutting edge sports facilities.

He said performance of tourism sector is interconnected with the Law & Order situation, better infrastructure and performance of other sectors.

Considering these factors, the government is committed in promoting this sector on priority basis. During the financial year 2014-15, seventeen (17) archaeological sites would be rehabilitated.

The heritage site of Takht Bhai will also be improved for the facilitation of Buddhist tourists. The traditional festivals of Shandoor, Kalash, and other similar activities will be held in order to provide ample opportunities to increase local and foreign tourists.
