Christine Lagarde Speaks to Marketplace's Kai Ryssdal

June 16, 2014

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- This morning, just hours after her press conference discussing the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) annual review of the U.S. economy, managing director Christine Lagarde sat down for a radio exclusive interview with American Public Media’s Marketplace host Kai Ryssdal.

Lagarde held a press conference this morning to discuss the release of the IMF’s annual review of the U.S. economy. The report addressed building blocks for longer-term growth and job creation; confronting poverty in the U.S.; tackling unemployment; reducing public debt; managing financial risks and next steps with housing finance reform.

In this morning’s wide-ranging interview, Lagarde discusses her faith in the American people and the U.S. economic system, her relationship with Fed Chair Janet Yellen and the need for ongoing communication from the Fed. She also shares why the IMF is advocating raising the U.S. minimum wage and how the U.S. is continuing to recover from the financial crisis.

The interview will air on today’s Marketplace with Kai Ryssdal on more than 500 public radio stations across the U.S. The full interview, with embeddable audio player and transcript, will be available at starting at 2 p.m. EDT today.
