Summer Stroll on Saturday

June 15--Local businesses will have a chance to showcase their wares at the annual Yuba City Summer Stroll.

The event will have a Treasure Island-pirate theme this year and will feature vendors, activities for kids and a beer garden featuring craft beer. It will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday on Plumas Street between Highway 20 and Bridge Street.

The event gives smaller, local businesses the chance to attract more customers in a community that could use a boost in its attitude to shop local, said event organizer Fotine Halikaskropriva.

"There are a lot of people in this community that do not know business services exist here because they don't drive down that road or don't have a need for that service -- they don't look for it," Halikaskropriva said. "That's the reason why businesses need to be at the Summer Stroll. They need to put themselves in front of potential customers in the community."

For the adults, there will be vendor and information booths for local businesses and nonprofits, plus a beer garden with craft beer from Sierra Nevada and Sutter Buttes Brewery.

For the kids, there will be a 35-foot tall, 70-foot long water slide and a treasure hunt for the first 500 kids.

There will also be live music, featuring national act Black Irish, local band Tihuana Taxi and the Ophir Prison Band.
