June 14--An evening in the Caribbean will raise funds for a local museum.

"Party in Paradise," the 36th annual gala of Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Loretto, will be held July 19 on the campus of St. Francis University.

The Caribbean-themed event will have guests immersed in a variety of games, tropical music and speciality bars.

A light show is planned by Brien Rullman, founder of OVT Visuals and nephew of SAMA trustee Ed O'Brien.

Rullman is based in Los Angeles and travels the world with his light show productions.

His client list includes LL Cool J, Black Eyed Peas, Deadmau5, The Flaming Lips, Crystal Method, the Pixies and James Brown.

Live and silent auctions will provide opportunities to bid on a variety of artwork, golf and vacation packages, original sculptures and a customized vintage 1972 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow.

A new leadership circle of 20 members heads the gala this year. Some are new to the event and others have years of experience.

The four co-chairs are Jim Cayce, Nancy Sheetz and Michael Strueber, all of Hollidaysburg, and Marian Morgan of Johnstown.

The rest of the circle includes Margaret Strueber, Kerrie Kinzle, Kashana Kopac, Barbara and Larry Savino, and Judy and Dick Scholton, all of Hollidaysburg; Glenda Forosisky and John Reffner, both of Altoona; Chanel Ventura and Dr. James Garaofalo, both of Duncansville; Barbara and Ed O'Brien of Loretto; Barbara Sincak of Hollsopple; and Mary and Dr. Joel Borkow of Johnstown.

The gala also is supported by a committee of more than 100 volunteers who devote their time and attention to the event every year.

Tickets are $175 per person.

Reservations are due by July 15 and can be made by calling 472-3920.
