Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Upcoming 2014 MuchMusic Video Awards

June 13, 2014

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 13, 2014) - The 2014 MuchMusic Video Awards are fast approaching and I am excited to watch some of the biggest names in music take to the stage in Toronto and celebrate our vibrant music scene.

I am very proud of all the nominees, as well as the many professionals involved in bringing their amazing talent to light. I encourage all Canadians to tune in and watch this Sunday.

Our Government recognizes that music contributes to the vitality of our cultural life and is an important sector of our economy. The Canadian music industry generates nearly $3 billion annually in economic activity. In Budget 2014, we permanently renewed all funding for Canadian music through the Canada Music Fund. On average, each year the $24.6-million Fund supports the production of more than 400 albums and 1,100 marketing, touring, and music showcase projects.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to wish the best of luck to the artists whose achievements and dedication will be celebrated at the 2014 MuchMusic Video Awards.
