Planning begins for ResacaFest

June 13--SAN BENITO -- Organizers for ResacaFest 2014 are accepting vendor applications in preparation for the city's holiday weekend festival.

Now in its eighth year, the community festival features live music, food, games for children and a fireworks display over the Resaca.

It is scheduled for July 5 at Heavin Memorial Park and Amphitheater, 705 N. Bowie Street. Admission is free of charge.

Activities will start at 4 p.m. at the amphitheater, with live entertainment including country, classic, pop and Tejano music, and arts and crafts booths that will feature unique collectibles and crafts.

The fireworks extravaganza will conclude the day's events at 10:30 p.m.

The live music lineup includes Jimmy Edward, Roger Velasquez and headliner Raulito Navaira. Local talent will include Los City Boyz and Los Latinos.

A 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for 8 a.m. at Heavin Resaca Trail. Online registration is available at www.irutexas.net. T-shirts will be given to the first 100 to register.

Vendors will sell food and beverages and there will be a beer garden for adults only.

Food vendor spaces rent for a $200 fee, which includes a health permit. Vendors may sell two items that do not duplicate those selected by other vendors. Corporate vendors include those businesses that wish to distribute free promotional items and information.

Arts and crafts vendors may sell handmade and specialty products, but no garage sale items or used clothing will be allowed. Registration fee is $50 per space.

No outside food or drinks will be allowed. Persons who attend are invited to bring their own chairs or blankets.
