June 13--SAN ANGELO, Texas -- The city of San Angelo has been recognized by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts for its financial transparency.
The city received the Gold Leadership Circle Award from the state comptroller's office for its efforts to give local taxpayers a transparent view of how their tax money is spent, according to a city news release sent out Friday.
The state agency tracks the financial transparency of local governments statewide, including annual budgets, financial reports and check registers.
Last year the finance department received the Silver Award from the state comptroller, the release states.
The state comptroller's Gold Leadership Circle Award is the second state-level nod the city's finance department has received this year, having earned the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its fiscal year 2013-14 budget last month from the Government Finance Officers Association of the U.S. and Canada.
