June 13--WEST HARTFORD -- The second annual "Wheel Fun" day is set for Sunday -- Father's Day -- with a group bicycle ride, live music, and performances.
The festival begins with a ride down Main St. at 9:30 a.m. The ride departs from the Bishops Corner parking lot by Marshalls and travels down Main Street to the West Hartford Town Hall parking lot. Riders participate at their own risk and must wear helmets.
The festival opens at 10 a.m. in the town hall parking lot, at 50 South Main St. Chris Poulus, a BMX world champion stunt rider, is scheduled to perform at 11 a.m.
From noon to 12:30 p.m., Bike/Walk CT will demonstrate bicycle safety tips, followed by a fashion show of bicycle apparel and gear sponsored by REI, Lulu Lemon, and Bloomfield Bike.
A raffle is scheduled from 2 to 2:30 p.m., and the festival will close at 3 p.m. with a four-mile, guided, family friendly ride through West Hartford.
The festival will include performances by Valentine the Clown and a unicycling juggler, a high-wheel vintage bicycle demonstration, a bicycle decorating station sponsored by Greater Hartford YMCA, Big Wheel time trials, face painting, and programs for adults such as bicycle maintenance and helmet fitting. There will also be a number of booths featuring a range of businesses, non-profit groups, outdoor exercise activities, spinning classes, and health and wellness programs.
Food booths at the start of the Bishops Corner bike event and at the town hall parking lot will include Pinkberry, Get Toasted, and more.
Professional photographer Mike Marques will also take free Father's Day photographs.
The event is sponsored by the West Hartford Bicycle Advisory Committee, the town of West Hartford, Bike West Hartford, Inc., and Hartford Healthcare.
