VA Grants Contract to Systems Made Simple

June 13, 2014

Systems Made Simple said that it has been awarded the Benefits Gateway Services (BGS) Systems Engineering and Software Development contract from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

In its release, the Company said that the BGS program is designed to deliver the VA with a service-oriented architecture (SOA) that provides application functionality as web services to a large number of critical VA applications. Originally developed by Systems Made Simple under the VETSNET contract, BGS has helped reduce the time it takes for veterans to receive their disability claims, leading the VA to expand the project to web services.

"We are proud to support our nation's veterans through our work on the Benefits Gateway Services," said Al Nardslico, president and chairman of Systems Made Simple. "The VA continues to make solid progress in reducing the time it takes for veterans to receive disability claims through investments in programs like BGS, and we are excited to play a role in these efforts."

Systems Made Simple said that over the next three years, the BGS program objective is to leverage, build and expand upon this initial success to meet additional challenges and needs of veterans. In the initial phase of the BGS program, Systems Made Simple leveraged its experience on a wide range of VA contracts to address the program requirements with an integrated total-systems-life-cycle approach. Through this approach, Systems Made Simple will maintain a solid architectural foundation governed by industry leading SOA principles in the next phase.

"The key to the initial success of the BGS program has been our strong partnership with the VA and the talents and dedication of our team," said Tony Vallin, deputy director at Systems Made Simple. "The forthcoming opportunities will enable our team to focus on the development of a responsive architecture which facilitates enhanced security, scalability, mobility and broader access to a wider variety of down-stream applications, all which support our veterans, their families and their caregivers".

In December 2013, Systems Made Simple said that it received a letter of commendation from the under secretary for benefits for the company's impact on the overall goals of the VA and its work developing, testing and implementing BGS services.
