June 11--The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development has awarded a $147,000 grant through its Minnesota Job Skills Partnership to St. Cloud State University for training about 80 employees of a St. Cloud company.

Netgain, a healthcare and information technology provider that is headquartered here, contacted SCSU's Corporate Education & Outreach division last fall to explore training opportunities. Netgain's recent growth, in addition to the rapid changes in the healthcare industry, has created gaps and opportunities for knowledge and skill development.

The grant acts as a catalyst between state post-secondary, educational or non-profit training providers and business and industry to collaborate to meet current and future requirements for employers. The training also gives trainees the possibility for economic advancement and long-term professional growth.

The grant for Netgain is to provide entry-level and advanced training during the next two years. Staff from SCSU's Corporate Education and Outreach division will develop and deliver the training to increase knowledge and understanding of the healthcare industry, its business communication skills and those required for handling the client experience, technical knowledge and management and leadership in information technology healthcare.

The training will allow Netgain to remain competitive and provide opportunities for employees to grow professionally.

Through the process, SCSU will gain knowledge of the healthcare and IT industries as it builds a partnership with a local company.
