June 12--A 25-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a trio of purse snatchings that occurred Monday night and early Tuesday morning in Orange County.

Charles Heineman faces charges of attempted robbery with a weapon and aggravated battery in the pepper spray attack of a woman early Tuesday at the Regal Cinemas, 541 N Alafaya Tr, the Orange County Sheriff's Office reported. He tried to take her purse but was unsuccessful.

He also is suspected of snatching two purses at the Wal-Mart on East Colonial Drive, authorities allege. The first one happened around 6 p.m. Monday after he followed a woman as she left the store, distracted her by asking a question as she got into her vehicle, and then reached inside the car and grabbed her purse, according to deputies.

Then around 1:30 a.m., he followed another woman around the store, the Sheriff's Office reported.

Deputies said as the woman left the Walmart and walked to her vehicle, the man grabbed her purse and then ran toward a green or black older model sports utility vehicle, possibly a Tahoe or Suburban. The vehicle has dark tinted windows and aftermarket chrome rims.

The vehicle also was spotted in the two prior incidents.

Orange County court records show that Heineman was also arrested in April for carrying concealed weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia. That case is ongoing.
