BRIEF: Smash Mouth opens Beach Boardwalk's free concert series

June 11--Nothing says summer in Santa Cruz than ... morning fog. Well, that and the weekly Bands on the Beach series of free concert at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. This great series starts this Friday (the 13th) with 1990s hit makers Smash Mouth (who are originally from San Jose, so they should know their way around the Boardwalk). Like always, Bands on the Beach is free with seating on a first-come-first-serve basis for two shows each Friday through the end of August, 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Here's who's when:

June 13: Smash Mouth

June 20: The Greg Kihn Band

June 27: Blind Melon

July 4: The Tubes, featuring Fee Waybill

July 11: Macy Gray

July 18: The Fixx

July 25: Gregg Rollie of Santana

Aug. 1: Y&T

Aug. 8: Starship, featuring Mickey Thomas

Aug. 15: Eddie Money

Aug. 22: Great White

Aug. 29: Papa Doo Run Run.
