World Bank prepares recommendation on Kyrgyzstan's energy sector reform policy

The World Bank prepared its recommendations on energy sector reform policy of Kyrgyzstan, Ani Balabanyan, Senior Energy Specialist at World Bank, said on June 10.

The main goal is to identify main objectives of energy sector and recommendations for a package of reforms. The document is translated now and it will be submitted to the government, Ms. Balabanyan said.

On the whole, the following changes were identified: a low reliability of electricity supplies, financial situation of the sector.

The World Bank specialists studied statistics on power outages and found that blackouts occur every hour in winter. As for the financial situation of the sector, it is impacted by losses that dropped recently, but still remain high in the region, Ani Balabanyan said.
