Thyolo District Community Development Officer (DCDO) Charles Kamlanje has emphasized the need that Village Savings Loan (VSL) groups should work together so that they should not differ in their day to day business.
Kamlanje was speaking after presenting certificates to Thyolo based Village Savings Loan groups that has registered as a network.
He said the network will help the groups to be uniform in their business and also help the Community Development Office to monitor the groups easily.
"At first there were some minor challenges in the village savings loan groups, for example some who were given the mandate to run the business of the groups were members as a result they misuse the money for their personal things leaving the group stranded.
But with the registration of the network we believe those challenges will be dealt with easily as other groups will emulate from their colleagues who have hired a neutral person and is paid a little something to run the business of the group" he said.
The Network which is called TOP NET VSL organisation includes Thyolo based village savings loan groups under WALA project which has been championed by Word Vision Malawi in the district.
However Kamlanje said the Community Development Office would like all Village Savings Loan groups in the district to be part of the network for sustainability and easy monitoring.
"The groups who have formed the Network are those that were established under WALA project. WALA has been working in 7 Traditional leaders out of 14 in the District.
In the remaining Traditional Authorities there are other groups which were established by other NGO's like CARD. So we need all the groups who were formed by other NGO's to be part of the network," he explained.
He said even those that were formed by the communities are welcome to Join the network.
"The District Community Development Office would like to engage other NGO's to encourage the groups to be part of the network," Kamlanje said.
He further said his office would like the groups also to form a network at T/A level.
He also said the network will help the groups to share skills on how to promote their groups.
