Swaziland : SWAZILAND's sugar exports mainly to the EU could reach 385 000 MT

Swaziland's sugar exports, primarily to the European Union (EU) could rise by nearly 3% percent and reach 385 000 metric tonnes (MT).

AgroChart said sugar production grew by 3% percent in the 2013/14 MY, from a year ago to an estimated 679 934 MT and Swaziland supplied around 373 523 MT of sugar to the EU.

Swaziland generated 5.6 MMT of sugar cane in the 2013/14 MY, marginally less than a year ago, on 58 979 hectares.

"For the 2014/15 MY, post forecasts that the area under sugar cane cultivation in Swaziland will increase by 3% to 61 000 hectares. This will under normal climatic conditions result in a sugar cane crop of six million metric tonness (MMT)."
