Jimmy Buffett concert to be shown in York County

June 10, 2014

June 10--Next week you can waste away in Margaritaville -- or at least Dillsburg.

On Thursday, June 19, Haar's Drive-In will be one of 81 drive-ins across the country hosting a live broadcast of a Jimmy Buffett concert.

It's a first for the drive-in at 185 Logan Road.

"This is new to all drive-ins. It's the first time something like this has been available," said Vickie Hardy, owner of the drive-in.

Gates will open at 7 p.m. for the concert that begins at 9:55 p.m.

The king of the Parrotheads and the Coral Reefer Band are playing the Coyote Drive-In near Fort Worth, Texas, and the show is being broadcast live by other digitally equipped drive-ins.

"I'm so glad we went digital because now we have the equipment to do something like this," Hardy said.

To attend: Tickets are $18 each online at or at Haar's. A $1.25 service fee is added to every ticket purchased online, but not at Haar's.

You can also order tickets by calling (717) 432-3779.

Concertgoers must buy a minimum of two tickets to get a car pass for the drive-in lot. Haar's has space for about 500 cars and has sold 500 tickets so far.

"We still have room. We're expecting a good crowd, a fun crowd. I think it's going to be a lot of fun. I know the Jimmy Buffett fans, the Parrotheads, are so excited," Hardy said.

Special features: To add to the festive atmosphere before the show, Haar's will have music from DJ Bob Rudy, games and specials at the snack bar.

But don't bring any margaritas or cheeseburgers from paradise.

Similar to its policies during movies, Haar's is not permitting alcohol or outside food and beverages.

"We're still not allowing alcohol. We're a family-oriented venue, and we're trying to keep it a family-oriented event. That's our goal," Hardy said.

There will be a tiki bar, but it will serve non-alcoholic margaritas and snow cones.

The event will add to Haar's business without interfering with the weekend movie lineup, Hardy said.

"It worked out perfect. The organizers knew not to compete against summer movies," she said.

Haar's will have extra staff on hand during the concert, which is being aired more than two months before Buffett plays live in Hershey on Saturday, Aug. 30.

"We know people are looking forward to it, but we don't know what this will be like. And we think there are also people coming who may not have been to a drive-in before. This will be a very different experience for a lot of us," Hardy said.
