China : ZTE to launch six new world class smartphones

ZTE Corp., China's telecom equipment manufacturer intends to launch six new smartphones in 2014 and set up a world-class handset development and research centre in India, moves aimed at bolstering its handsets business that produces almost a third of its revenues in the nation.

A top company executive said, the phones, a mix of 4G and 3G devices, will be priced at Rs 7,000-18,000 and cater to various segments of the market.

However, the company refused to disclose details of the potential investment in the handset R&D centre, which could be modelled along the lines of its Shanghai facility.

Executive vice president and worldwide head of ZTE's handsets business, Adam Zeng, said, "ZTE is particularly gung-ho about the business potential of 4G-LTE deployments in India and we will shortly finalise specific 4G models that will be launched.
