June 10--Celtic music from Nova Scotia, performed by award-winning musical sisters Cassie and Maggie McDonald, is scheduled tonight at Trent River Coffee Company in New Bern.

The two are fresh from an appearance at Ocrafolk Festival at Ocracoke Island and will stop in New Bern en route to a European tour to Austria, Germany and Italy.

"A chance encounter revealed that they would be in New Bern three days before they flew," said promoter Vana Prewitt, a member of the Down East FolkArts Society. "Some quick action and alert to numerous social networks has made it possible to bring two magical young women with roots in the area of Antigonish, Nova Scotia."

The 7:30 p.m. concert is free, with donations accepted. The duo's CDs will be on sale at the coffee house.

"Their music fits together seamlessly, encompassing various styles from Cape Breton reels to Antigonish polkas, Quebecois fiddling and foot work to down east standards," added Prewitt. "The McDonald sisters captured the hearts of visitors to Ocrafolk this last weekend."

According to their web site bio, the sisters stay true to their Celtic roots, while exploring the boundaries of traditional music.

They were Canadian Folk Music Award nominees for "Young Performers of the Year" and East Coast Music Award nominees for traditional album the double Music Nova Scotia Award nominees for new artists and root album of the year.
