June 1, 2014

Final reports on evaluation of technical and economic parameters and socio-environmental impacts of the project on construction completion of the Rogun hydropower plant on the Vakhsh River in Tajikistan will be approved in August, the World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia said on Friday in Dushanbe.

President Emomali Rahmon and Saroj Kumar Jha discussed cooperation between Tajikistan and the World Bank, support of the country's socio-economic development, reduction of the global financial and economic crisis' impact on the economy, and issues relating to the estimates of the Rogun's completion.

The estimates will be particularly published in June, and discussed in July. The final reports will be approved taking into account the views of people living in the Amu Darya Basin.

Rahmon expressed confidence that the World Bank's recommendations for the Rogun's construction will be unbiased and independent.

The sides also discussed implementation of the CASA-1000 Project, construction of a railway between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan through Afghanistan, as well as other projects of regional significance.
