Sophos today announced the latest edition of its enterprise mobile management (EMM) solution, Sophos Mobile Control (SMC) 4.0, which combines individual file encryption and integrated AV and Web filtering.

Available in on-premise and as-a-service editions, SMC is aimed at small and mid-market organisations and is designed to allow admins to manage and secure mobile devices, content and applications on the corporate network.

The latest version supports iOS, Android and Windows Phone 8 devices. Sophos claims it is the first EMM solution to offer individual file encryption, with gated entry to each file, to protect the data in the office and in remote locations. SMC also delivers integrated security against malware and malicious websites for Android devices, which account for around 80% of smartphone platforms worldwide and, consequently, the majority of mobile malware threats. Sophos said the number of unique pieces of mobile malware encountered by its R&D unit has now reached almost 900,000.

SMC 4.0 also integrates with Sophos UTM, Checkpoint and Cisco for network access controls. Compromised devices are isolated from the network to protect the organisation's assets from discovered malware. The solution also includes a Web-based management console for IT administrators and an intuitive self-service portal for users to change passwords, register devices and report loss or theft.

"SMC 4.0 extends the Sophos commitment to delivering comprehensive data protection, offering solutions to manage, secure, and protect not just the mobile devices themselves, but also the content and applications on those devices," said Dan Schiappa, senior vice president and general manager, End User Security Group, Sophos.

"SMC 4.0 takes content management one step further by ensuring persistent mobile encryption on devices [and] extends beyond the office doors. Additional network access control based on device compliance status makes mobile device management, content management, and mobile security simple and effective."
