Nikkei hits 2-month high in morning on strong China, Japan data

Tokyo stocks rose Monday morning, with the Nikkei hitting a two-month intraday high, on strong Chinese and Japanese economic data as well as gains on Wall Street on Friday.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rocketed 262.42 points, or 1.79 percent, from Friday to end the morning at 14,894.80 after briefly rising to 14,906.76, its highest intraday level since April 4. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 15.82 points, or 1.32 percent, to 1,217.23.

Major gainers included real estate, nonferrous metal and precision machinery issues.
