June 01--ASHLAND -- Families looking for a little free, somewhat educational summertime fun have turned out in packs for the Fannin Automotive Family Funfest this weekend.

The funfest included water wheels and bouncing blow-up inflatables for children to play in, pictures with superheroes and live music all free to families looking for good, clean fun.

Superheroes Batman, Batgirl, Captain America and Spiderman visited families Saturday afternoon to give a short presentation to the children before posing for photos with the "Bat-mobile"

"Treat everybody good and good things will happen to you," Batman told the children who were sitting in front of the stage, hanging on his every word with wide eyes.

"OK, let's go over the four things we learned today. Say it with me," he told the youngsters. "One: Never give up. Two: Always do the right thing. Three: Help other people. Four: Don't be a bully."

One toddler was particularly excited to get his picture with Batman as he waited with his mom at the back of the long greeting line.

Sarah Easterling said her son, Tyler, 4, was going through his "superhero" phase.

"He likes all of them, but Batman is his favorite," she said.

He heard her mention Batman and quickly added, "What I like about him is he kills all the bad guys so the good guys win."

"He teaches us to be good, right?" his mom said.

"Yes, he does!" he answered.

Aside from the superhero excitement, another family had fun with the inflatable features.

George, Kathy and daughter Ruth Rickett traveled from Vinton, Ohio, to check out the festival.

"I saw the TV commercial and we just thought it would be good, free fun for the family," Kathy Rickett said.

Ruth said she enjoyed the inflatable water wheels the most. With the sun beating down on the festival that afternoon, it is easy to see why Ruth enjoyed being inside an inflatable wheel that allowed her to walk along the water in a shallow pool.

The day was packed with other activities that included music from Paul Pace with Jamie Baxter and Melvin Goins, kids karaoke and a talent show.

Funfest activities will continue from 1 to 5 p.m. today.
