May 09--Last year, a Dome Films crew gave #TCPalmSocial a rundown of their top 5 spots in Vero Beach. See if you agree.

Ay Jalisco: In Mexico, Jalisco is a state known for it production of corn, beans and livestock. So it makes sense Ay Jalisco Mexican Restaurant is loved for its corn, bean and chicken-filled tacos. The chain restaurant, 1909 20th St., opened its first location in 1997 in Vero Beach, and since opened in several other places, including Sebastian. It's authentic, too -- Ay Jalisco's owners are from, well, Jalisco, Mexico. For more information, go to www.ayjaliscomexicanrestaurant.com.

Tast'y O Donut: On the early mornings of video-recording and editing, the Dome Films team gets its fuel with freshly-baked doughnuts and breakfast sandwiches from Tast'y O Donut, 1700 14th Ave. The local shop is a Vero Beach favorite gathering spot for the production company and many other locals, even with Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks nearby. The shop is open from 5 a.m. to noon daily. For more information, go to www.tastyodonut.com or call 772-567-5505.

Brain Freeze Frozen Yogurt & Coffee Shop: Vero Beach identical twins Joe and David Bishop wanted a one-stop-shop for frozen yogurt, coffee, muffins, waffles, sandwiches, soups and subs. They created just that early last year with the opening of Brain Freeze Frozen Yogurt & Coffee Shop, 2217 7th Ave. Take a look at the menu and you'll know why it didn't take very long for the spot to become a hangout for young families on the weekends and students looking for an after-school hangout during the week. For more information, call 772-492-9356 or go to www.facebook.com/brainfreezevero.

Vero Beach Hotel & Spa: Staycationing? The Dome Films crew recommends a stay at the Vero Beach Hotel & Spa, 3500 Ocean Drive. The oceanfront building isn't just pet-friendly hotel rooms with a view, it's also home to White Orchid Spa for a day of relaxation, as well as Cobalt Restaurant for foodies and Heaton's Reef Bar & Grill for happy hour-goers. During the summer, rates start from $209. For more information, call 772-231-5666 or go to www.verobeachhotelandspa.com.

Kilted Mermaid: With the motto "boutique wines, craft beer and good karma," it's no wonder the Kilted Mermaid, 1937 Old Dixie Highway, is a local favorite. The food is not for those with a big appetite, but the restaurant /bar makes up for it by serving more than 60 beers and 40 wines, along with live music and trivia Thursdays. What stands out in the menu is the wide variety of cheese and dessert fondue. For more information, call 772-569-5533 or go to www.kiltedmermaid.com.
