Mazda's Yamanouchi to step down as chairman

Mazda Motor Corp. said Friday that Chairman Takashi Yamanouchi will step down to be succeeded by Vice Chairman Seita Kanai.

The top management change will be made official by the board of directors following approval at an annual shareholders' meeting to be held June 24.

Yamanouchi, 69, took the lead to formulate and implement a structural reform plan to reinforce the company's overseas production and promote global alliances.
