BRIEF: Skagit Bank warns of phone scam

May 9, 2014

By Elana Pidgeon, The Bellingham Herald (Bellingham, Wash.)

May 09--People have been receiving fraudulent phone calls about their Skagit Bank debit and credit cards, asking for personal information, according to an alert on the bank's website.

The calls are not from Skagit Bank, and its employees will not ask for personal information over the phone, the alert said.

At least one call came from a "00000" number saying the person's debit card was locked. The caller said they were from Skagit Bank.

Not everyone receiving the calls has an account at Skagit Bank.

If you received a call like this and gave any information, contact the bank at 800-246-4402.

Reach Elana Pidgeon at 360-715-2249 or elana.pidgeon@bellinghamherald.com.
