Supply, installation and deployment of a data storage system

May 8, 2014

Tenders are invited for Supply, installation and deployment of a data storage system The research community at the UCD Earth Institute tackles many problems that require increasing amounts of storage. Currently, many datasets are stored on users workstations and/or external hard drives, which is not only inconvenient and inefficient, but also poses information risks. These research datasets need to be protected and stored indefinitely on a system that is secure, fast, accessible and highly available. Capacity is also required, with some individual research groups requiring file storage in the order of 10TB to 100TB. It has been decided to build a resilient, fault-tolerant, replicated and secure storage system that is easy to use and easy to administer. The Earth Institute will consider storage systems in any of three broad categories: 1. cloud-based (data is stored off-site), or 2. smart storage solutions with enhanced features 3. High-capacity, Linux-based systems with standard hardware In any case, the storage system should have the following features: - Fault-tolerance - LDAP user account management with access control lists - Multi-site redundancy (there are two data centres in UCD) - Reliability - Give as much capacity as possible for our budget - Allow easy access to users from multiple platforms (OSX, *nix, Windows) - Easy to administer - Be designed to accommodate capacity upgrades (if applicable) - Ability to swap-out old hardware with new hardware (if applicable) Response deadline (Irish time) 23-05-2014 13:00
